Cemented carbide has the advantages of high hardness, toughness and
corrosion resistance can stand the annealing without changing its
physical characters. So, cemented carbide is a very good material
for drill bits, replace the HSS perfectly in function and tool
service life, however price per piece is more expensive than HSS
drill bits, usually applied for precision drilling in lathe tools,
machining centers, automobile parts, molds, ceramics, woodworking,
etc.
Classified by shapes, there are fixed shank carbide drill
bits(shank diameter is fixed, sometimes not the same as cutting
diameter) and straight carbide drill bits(shank diameter same as
cutting diameter).
